Help a Gal Out!

First, I have to say it: THE WIND!!! Enough! Although the wind did cancel soccer practice last night and then was kind enough to die down enough that all four of us could go on a little after- dinner walk. Awesome and MUCH needed in this break-neck week!

Remember my whole 'Reading to Write' plan? As life has sped up, reading has slowed down. Or, you know, stopped. My library stash no longer looks appealing, just daunting.

I need some help!

Lay 'em on me -- I need books that I need to read. HOWEVER -- my life is not currently in the place where a hard-to-follow book or one that requires much deep thinking or connectivity will survive. A short book is great. A funny book would be awesome. A touching book fabulous. A thinking book? Pass. My brain, it is used up.

Oh, truly, if it's a book your 5th grader is reading, I will probably love it. I have almost decided that is my genre.

What is a good book I need to read now?

Oh, and P.S. One other thing sitemeter tells me -- you people don't care for book reviews. It's okay. We'll do 'LOST' sometime!

Hum, let me think, something sweet and easy... I don't know. I'm wanting to say "Sam's Letters to Jennifer" written by James Patterson. It's been a long time since I read this book and I remember it being really sweet. Maybe I should read it again. It says copyright 2004 (I just pulled it off my shelf) I'll keep thinking to see if anything else comes to mind. I normally read suspense novels from christian authors.

I would love to hear what you end up reading. I love to read and I loved your book review.

Oh and Anah, buy a bottle of Johnson's pink lotion, that's the smell, um one of the best every. It doesn't smell as good on us as it does on her but that is as close as we can get without a baby in our arms, right.

If you've never read "Redeeming Love", (Francine Rivers) it's a must read.... may not be a NOW must read.

It sucked me in til 2 in the morning because I needed to know the events of "just one more chapter".

It's a good one for a rainy weekend where the kid / family responsibilities are low and there is time to process...(with a box of kleenex or two)

Can't help you out in the 5th grade genre - we're still in Junie B. Jones land here... oh yeah, and The Boxcar Children... or The Adventures of Captain Underpants

Oh wait!.... "Eat, Pray, Love" was another good one that I've read recently... other than that I've been stuck in bits and pieces of non-fiction....

Or...."Between Georgia" (I listened to that one...) it's about a daughter and her relationship with her deaf-blind mother and her aunts - and the town of Between, Georgia...

(guess I have read more than I thought....)

Some books I've loved and frequently re-read that *might* fit, if you haven't read them already:

Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quartet

Jean Webster's Daddy Long Legs

C.S. Lewis - the Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perlandra and That Hideous Strength), and also The Great Divorce

Walter Wagnerin's The Book of the Dun Cow

Ellis Peter's Cadfael series(20 books there, but they're best read in order)

Hannah Hurnard's Hind's Feet in High Places

Oh - just finished - Stephen Lawhead's King Raven Trilogy

Not high falutin' literature, but all good readin'. ;)

Well, Sarah, I'm new to your blog and don't really know you. Hmmmm. I'll put in a vote for Couplehood and/or Parenthood by Jerry Seinfeld. Laughed my way through both of those light reads!

My favorite book series in fifth grade were "The Great Brain" books about three brothers growing up at a Catholic boarding school, and one was always coming up with fantastic schemes. I guess it's got more guy appeal, but I sure loved those.

Ok, Sarah, here are a few more:

Adult:
Anne Tyler, Breathing Lessons

Young Adult:
Bud, Not Buddy (Christopher Paul Curtis)

Much Ado About Grubstake (Jean Ferris, who authored Once Upon a Marigold)

No More Dead Dogs (Gordon Korman)

The View from Saturday (E.L. Konigsburg)

Catherine, Called Birdy (Karen Cushman)

Pictures of Hollis Woods (book review on my blog)

Loved all of these--I think you'll enjoy any of the above that you haven't already read!

Happy reading--and keep the book reviews coming. I love them!

Y'all totatlly rock out loud! Love all of these suggestions and have read very few of them -- 'Redeeming Love' and the 'Couplehood' and 'Parenthood' books (snort-laughing right now thinking about the description of 'taking a shower together' -- HILARIOUS!)

I'll put these on my Shelfari and start looking into them!

Thanks!
