Help me with a writing project.
I'm thinking of ways that children get completely consumed in their imaginary world, whether by pretending the bed is a boat and the carpet is water, or the brush is a microphone and the stuffed animals are the screaming fans.
What are childhood imaginations/ fantasies you remember getting totally lost in, or you currently see your children getting lost in?

haha you don't EVEN want to get me started on that subject! i had FOUR imaginary friends, if that tells you anything
Building a fort with the couch cushions... the closet becomes a hideout... using Mom and Dad's bed as a stage for the Rockettes... the playground equipment was an airplane... using a mop as a horse... using a backscratcher as a trailer to connect to matchbox cars.... Ahhhh! Childhood!
When I was a kid, big, epic movies were the thing. There was always some ocean adventure involving a huge three-masted schooner, and the helmsman would heave the wheel over to make a hard turn for some reason or other. Well, I would turn my bike over so it stood on the handlebars and the seat. The front wheel then became the large spoked wheel of Captain Hornblower's ship. I sailed many an ocean standing behind my bike.
Hi Sarah
my fantasy was that I could fly. I spent many nights before sleep soaring above the world. I can still visualise the wings I imagined I had.
Hey, Sarah,
I don't have anything to contribute, except that today's Speaking of Faith radio show was all about PLAY...and the expert specifically addressed imaginary play and how VITAL it is to growth.
You can hear the whole thing online...be sure to listen to the part when Krista Tippett shares that her son has imaginary friends and plays a game she has named "Saving the World!"

Oh me, I used to announce out loud on my way to take out the trash at night that I had just finished some class on strength/power/karate super powers So if anyone out there could here me they would know best to stay away, far away. Probably because they thought I was CRAZY. My kids are currently into pretending that they can see bionicles even the underwater ones in their kiddie pool. Go figure?
