Actually, Stephanie, I just read an update in the technical section of a car magazine to which I subscribe, in which this question was addressed. The engineer covering that question said that for modern, fuel-injected cars that no longer holds true. So, alas, we have one less good reason for keeping our cars cool in this summer to end all summers!

Unless you get all technical about it, and think how a car usually uses a bit more fuel to re-start than idle for a moment ;P
Thankfully, our city picks up our recycling at the curb... avoids such embarrassing moments :)
