As I have mentioned in "Thursday mornings with the Stirmans" Thursdays are hard for us to get started. Today seemed even more difficult. I haven't felt well this week, so I slept in a little longer than usual, and LOTS longer than I should have. I hate doing that because then I'm still groggy and staggering around while I'm trying to wake the kids up.
I try to wake the kids up with a silly made-up song, but my still-asleep brain couldn't do it. However there is a song that is played over announcements at the kids' school that is all of our favorite: "Put your Happy Face On". It's really fun and upbeat, and a frequent reminder/topic of conversation around here. So I woke the kids up and told them it was time to put their happy faces on. Later, staggering into the living room where Riley was putting on his shoes, I quizzed him: "Riley, do you have your happy face on?"
"Nope."
"I really don't either yet. That's okay."
"You can have mine, mom. I'm not going to use it."
He was definitely more awake than I was at that point!
Put your happy face on
And sing a happy song
And the whole wide world will sing along
If you just put your happy face on
Pick yourself up
Dry those eys
Try to look at life from the sunny side
And you will find
It's a beautiful day
The whole world loves your smiling face. . .
So Put your happy face on
And sing a happy song
And the whole wide world will sing along
If you just put your happy face on!

Did Riley ever take his happy face back?
I can attest to the fact that NO ONE in the general vicinity of me (which was i-10 East just a smidgeon east of Baytown) had their happy faces on either. And most of them would have been happy to have those canned mustard greens at the time. Abysmal!!!!!!
