Tone of voice is generally the biggest indicator in using the understood 'duh'.

If you can just imagine for a minute...Natalie's new phrase when she is getting a lecture is, in her sassy 3 year old voice, "Why are we talking about this?"
hahahaha...my kids have yet to reach the age to use the "duh" word, thank goodness! Lord give me strength when those days come! And Anne...I can just SEE Natalee saying that, that is hilarious!!!
